GomTV Season 3 Round of 8: Jaedong vs Effort

The word ‘Epic’ gets thrown around a lot these days, not the least by me. Often it is an appropriate term for the high-level of Starcraft that we are able to watch these days, but sometimes it’s more appropriate than others. When it comes to determining who is the very best in the world at playing Zerg vs Zerg, for example, it is truly epic - and even more so when it’s a grudge match.

Here, in July 2009 towards the end of the GomTV Intel Classic Season 3, Jaedong and Effort meet again, because they recently faced against each other in the Ongamenet Starleague. One of them lost then, and he is now hungry for the chance to prove his true worth. Jaedong is the undisputed favourite, his winrate against other Zergs is over 80% which is higher than what anyone has had in any aspect in Korean progaming history. He is the best, but does that guarantee him the win?

Effort is, in my own personal opinion, the second-best Zerg in the world, as recent months have shown. He might not be as accomplished as his opponent in terms of historical achievements, but as long as he brings his A-game he just might be good enough to beat Jaedong on his homecourt. If so, he would bring down a giant and a king, and take its place.

This series does deserve to be called EPIC. Watch and behold:
