They say that players come and go, but glory lasts forever. For over a decade, legends of Starcraft have risen and fallen - all of them leaving their marks in history, all of them contributing to the epic landscape of fame that this game is built on. Some of them we cannot forget - Nal_rA, Garimto, ilOveOov and many others spring to mind. There are on the other hand also names who were great in their day, but who no longer can inspire the masses like they used to.
The two players featured in this collection belong to none of those groups - they stand above and beyond ordinary classification. SlayerS_`Boxer` and his arch-rival [NC]YellOW are like no other champions of Starcraft - they have met and fought countless of times ever since Starcraft first became a sport, and their own legendary status is only surpassed by that of their timeless rivarly.
Lim-Yo Hwan, the Terran Emperor and most renowned Starcraft player of all time, defined the game during its early years - his dominance was complete and absolute, almost. Few were able to challenge his might during the early years - but one of this who did so and never surrendered was Hong Jin-Ho, the first Maestro of Zerg. Boxer, with his creative style and strategic genius, took most of the victories in the regular leagues but YellOw seemed to have the upper hand in special events and show matches. Together they fought for fame, glory and ultimate victory.
Friends in real life, enemies at the battlefield and legends together - the rivalry between SlayerS_`Boxer`and [NC]YellOw continues to this day, and still pulls crowds of thousands. They are both still active, and even though players of the younger generation are now leading the field instead, no one can ever count out these two masters of old. Still they can surprise allegedly better players and take wins in ways that no one but they could have thought of, and when they themselves meet in battle we all know that it will be epic beyond the ordinary.
This article feature some of the many, many clashes between Boxer and YellOw over the years. There are many more, but these are the most epic, in my own opinion. The collection starts with their latest battle from November 2009, but then continues chronologically from the beginning down to the present. If You want to watch their latest game with English commentary, just scroll down to the bottom.
For a Starcraft player, the undying rivalry between YellOw and Boxer is a defining aspect of the history behind this game. They set the mould, and everybody else had to follow. Kick back and enjoy, Polygon reVue proudly presents:
