eSports Pimpest Plays #2: National Geographic reports on eSports in South Korea

by kneff on June 17, 2009

In a surprisingly in-depth and serious piece of reporting, National Geographic made a very watch-worthy documentary about the World Cyber Games 2005 in Singapore. It is actually a lot more than that, as they dedicate most of the 50 minutes to comprehensive coverage of eSports in South Korea, which of course means professional Starcraft.

Among the featured progamers in the documentary they focus on Xellos (a Terran-player and previous winner of the WCG), nowadays honourably retired but once the dominator of the scene as Jaedong is today. National Geographic also interviews one of the first and greatest legends of Korean progaming, who happens to not be Korean at all - French Canadian Guillaume Patry, or X’ds~Grrr.

This is a very accurate and positive portrayal of professional gaming and eSports from the Holy Land, produced by a very credible source. If one, like I try to do with this blog, wants to convince others about how deep and vibrant this phenomenon is - this is the video I would show them. So, without further ado, click below to watch this very encouraging documentary:
